About Us.....
Building Homes, Building Hope, Building Community.
Hancock County Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
In times of instability and suffering around the world, it is comforting to know that Habitat helps provide some stability and relief. Here in Hancock County, our Habitat affiliate brings together people from all walks of life to work together to build stable homes for our families to come home to at the end of the day. Habitat gives us the opportunity to unite together - no matter what race or religion or income - in a mission that is both positive and constructive.

Hovey Family Dedication Ribboncutting |
Almost a year ago, we observed that our Hancock County Habitat affiliate had provided 11 homes for families in need since our incorporation in 1989, helping to eliminate poverty housing in Hancock County, Maine.
The year 2009 saw our affiliate complete two more homes, houses #12 in Franklin and #13 in Otis, for two wonderfully deserving families. These two photographs show the joy evident in the symbolic ribboncutting at our Dedication ceremonies this fall.
We also started a third house this year, house #14, in Ellsworth with Faith Community Fellowship as our sponsor organization with the Plaisted family. With the leagues of volunteers, the individual and corporate donations and gifts-in-kind, and the groundswell of community support, we hope to complete this home near the end of this year!
And we have continued to address the need for our affiliate to become more sustainable by opening the Hancock County Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 27 High Street in Ellsworth (across the street from Cadillac Mountain Sports). A portion of our start-up operating costs were provided by the Maine Community Foundation and a portion of our ReStore box truck expense was offset by a grant from the TD Charitable Foundation. This retail outlet sells donated new and reusable building material with income from the ReStore supporting additional home construction in Hancock County- our underlying mission! Call us at 667-8484 to donate or to volunteer at the store!
By your identifying families in need and encouraging them to make application to our affiliate, to become a Habitat partner family, you can be an advocate with us - making poverty housing and homelessness become socially, politically and religiously unacceptable here in Maine, in our county and the world. Won't you join us?
Hancock County Habitat for Humanity has opened it’s ReStore at 27 High Street in Ellsworth and is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
