Volunteer with Hancock County Habitat for Humanity
What does it cost to become a Hancock County Habitat volunteer? What are the benefits? This is one situation where the cost/benefit ratio is extremely favorable to you, the volunteer. The cost is a few hours a week or a month, building at the site, serving on a committee, or baking brownies for the workers.
The benefits, which are numerous, include working with other dedicated people who want to eliminate substrandard housing in our area and experiencing that very special feeling that comes with knowing you are giving a hand up to someone in your community. From the ground breaking ceremony to the house dedication, it is our volunteers who turn lumber, nails, roofing shingles, and gallons of paint into a real home for a deserving family.
If you haven't experienced the benefits of Habitat, we invite you to join us. Individuals are always welcome as are scheduled groups from churches, schools, organizations, and businesses.

Site Supervisors
If you are moderately handy, or are a skilled craftsman, your talents will be put to good use. We are always in need of supervisors for our Wednesday and Saturday programs to instruct and guide our volunteers. Or, if you prefer to help out in other ways, help is welcome on committees and in doing office-related work.

There are several ways to join in the work of Hancock County Habitat for Humanity.
Covenant
Congregations sign an agreement with Hancock County Habitat
to pray for the work of Habitat, to bring the matter of housing up to the
people of their community, to have an action plan to come work on a building
site, and to provide some financial support to the work that is going
on in Hancock County through Habitat.
Answering God’s Call to Serve
Christ didn’t commission Habitat, but he did commission the church.
The church gave birth to Habitat’s International ministry and has sustained
it for 27 years and within Hancock County for 15 of those years. Habitat is
now in 84 countries and has built homes for over 600,000 people. In Hancock
County alone we have built 11 homes housing 46 people. Our goal is for Habitat
to be an arm of Hancock County’s churches and their outreach ministry.
We need your help. Just as Jesus gathered his apostles to do his work, Habitat
brings congregations together to raise the funds and hammers and provide the
prayer necessary to create a home for a family in Hancock County.
If Habitat for Humanity is to reach new horizons, the church will be its fuel. Habitat for Humanity can move to a new level of building if we step out to catch up with what God is doing through the whole church. Imagine the additional families we could provide decent shelter if we became infused with the vitality of new church partners! What is God asking your church to do? Pray and seek to discern where God may be calling you.
- Could you form a construction team to work on a house?
- Invite your youth group to do painting and landscaping?
- Create a “cookie construction crew” to bake and freeze cookies for construction workers?
- Meet past & future homeowners and hear their stories?
- Provide a gift of undeveloped land for a future home?
- Serve as a Job Site Host responsible for welcoming, working on a crew & having fun?
- Hold a Bible study on a worksite and then write blessings on the studs?
- Organize a benefit activity such as a supper to help purchase materials for a home?
- Create your own activities to learn and support the work of Habitat?
- Remember Hancock County for Humanity in your estate planning?
- Pray for our ministry and for families in need?
- Serve on Habitat’s Faith Relations committee?

Providing a way for families to achieve the security of safe, affordable housing is our continuing goal. Join us in making a larger contribution in our community to eliminate poverty housing. Home Sponsorship Guidlines
Campus Chapters assist and work with Hancock Country Habitat in constructing homes, raising funds and increase awareness of housing issues in the community.
How you can help:
- Pray for the work of Habitat.
- Contribute financially for materials and house construction.
- Participate in fund-raising events.
- Volunteer to help build, plan events, and serve on Habitat committees.
- Donate land or let us know of land available.
- Provide equipment.
- Offer your professional home building or related services.
- Spread the word.
- Remember Habitat for Humanity in your Will.

On a work day:
- Make sure you have work gloves, hammer, tool belt, pencil and safety glasses.
- You may also wish to bring additional tools of our own, but PLEASE mark anything you bring with your own name.
- Be at the site at 8:00 in the morning on the day you are schedule to volunteer.
- Bring your bag lunch. Lunch breaks at Noon for approximately 1/2 hour.
- Water is provided on site. Frequently snacks (brownies, cookies, etc.) are brought and shared by Volunteers.
- Work day clean-up begins at 4:00.
