On Saturday, July 12 at 3:00 PM, Hancock County Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the dedication of its newest home in Blue Hill—built in partnership with Sonia Groesbeck, who has worked tirelessly to create a better life for herself.
After years of unstable and unsafe housing, Sonia applied to Habitat with the hope of providing her family a permanent, affordable place to call home. Sadly, her son Brock passed away of cancer before he could see the home completed. In a remarkable show of resilience, Sonia still embraced the program with determination, logging countless sweat equity hours on her home and others, all while working and attending countless doctor's appointments to treat a disability that impacts her mobility. Despite many obstacles, Sonia was seen walking to the home to do her part.
“This home is a dream come true,” Sonia said. “It means security, stability, and a future I can build on.”
The dedication ceremony will include a ribbon cutting, remarks from Habitat staff and board, and an open house. All are welcome to attend and celebrate this powerful moment of community and new beginnings.

“Sonia’s journey is exactly why we do this work,” said Sherry Billings, Executive Director of Hancock County Habitat. “She’s shown incredible perseverance and heart. We’re proud to have walked alongside her and thrilled to welcome her home.”
We are deeply grateful to the volunteers, donors, and community partners who made this home possible. Together, we’re building more than houses—we’re building hope.
